Overview

The sprawling city of Shah Alam is one of the major cities in Klang Valley, and is the capital city of Selangor. Named after Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, the then Sultan of Selangor, Shah Alam was the first planned city in Malaysia after our independence in 1957.

Located about 25 kilometres west of the city centre of Kuala Lumpur, this rapidly growing city is situated within the districts of Petaling and Klang, bordered by other urban cities - Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya - and connected with various major highways and public transportation, making it one of the hot residency spots for the majority of city dwellers.

Accessibility and Transportation

Known as the city of roundabouts by the locals, it has over 18 roundabouts that connect the entire network of the city. Shah Alam can be accessed by major highways including the Federal Highway, Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE) and Kemuning – Shah Alam Highway (LKSA). These highways connect Shah Alam to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.

For a cheaper and more convenient alternative, Shah Alam is also connected by the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) that stops in Shah Alam station in Section 19, and Batu Tiga station in Section 13. There is also a bus and taxi stand in Section 17 with car rental services.  There are plenty of buses and taxis in Shah Alam’s commercial areas.

The strategic location and ease of public transportation contribute to the high demand for Shah Alam’s properties, as people are always looking for houses for sale or apartments for rent in the area.

Amenities and Facilities

Shah Alam is also known for its natural beauty, as the city is surrounded by lush landscape and natural lakes – balancing nature with urbanisation. There are plenty of exquisite landmarks and recreational areas one can visit in Shah Alam, mainly the Shah Alam Lake Gardens, Garden of Islamic Arts, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, Wet World Shah Alam, and many more.

Aside from nature, Shah Alam has 3 major shopping centres to serve the shopping needs of its dwellers – Kompleks PKNS, Shah Alam City Centre Mall, and Plaza Shah Alam. If you’re wondering about the eateries in Shah Alam, they are plentiful and varied, catering to the hungry needs of over 645,000 residents of the city. Hundreds of restaurants with thousands of delicacies will certainly sate any person’s appetite, anywhere in the city.

Shah Alam is also known for its iconic I-City, better known as the City of Lights – a highly advanced technology park that lights up at night with impressive light architecture and decorations that consist of millions of colourful LED lights and exciting activities such as the Snow World, Ferris Wheel with stunning view at night, and many others besides. It’s the perfect recreational area that rivals that of Genting Highland Theme Park itself, with its variety of activities and attractions for you and your family.

For those who are looking for a night of candle-light dinner or a weekend getaway, Concorde Hotel Shah Alam is the perfect go-to place, with its sumptuous array of buffet and luxurious décor. For golf lovers, a stay at the Holiday Inn Glenmarie could do you no wrong, and it heightens the city’s attraction to the locals and tourists alike.

Shah Alam is a city that never stops growing, as it is also home to at least two major universities in Malaysia – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM) and Universiti Industry Selangor (UNISEL). These knowledge hubs brings in a steady stream of students into the city, and more and more constructions are underway in Shah Alam to cater to the demands of the masses, who are now looking for properties in Shah Alam for its high value due to the many perks.

As the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project is expected to be completed in 2017, the value of the properties in Shah Alam are expected to rise even higher, as its strategic location, urban culture and ease of public transportation are sure to pique the interest of any buyer, local or foreign.
