Sentul, a district located in Kuala Lumpur was one of Kuala Lumpur’s early districts. In its yesteryears, the 294-acre district was once the home and workplace of thousands of railway workers and housed the old Malayan Railway train depot. In fact, there are many Hindu temples and even churches to be found within Sentul as the distinct Indian influence stems from arrival of Indian workers who used to work on the train depot since 1896.
Nowadays, when Sentul is mentioned, high-end and high-rise residential properties such as the Capers, the Saffron, the Fennel and Bayu Sentul with beautiful manicured parks come to mind. However, it has only been less than two decades ago when YTL Land & Development Berhad (YTL Land) initiated a multi-billion ringgit urban renewal project. Previously before the urban redevelopment project undertaken by YTL Land, railway tracks, historic pre-war living quarters and shops from the yesteryears were all staples of Sentul’s image.
YTL Land divided Sentul into two parts, namely Sentul East and Sentul West. Sentul East consists of 108 acres and mainly commercial development, while Sentul West is 186 acres and houses mainly residential properties. However, Sentul has more to offer besides the number of upmarket high-rise luxury condominiums and the chic office buildings. In fact, the ongoing urban renewal project also hosts the renowned Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC), the site of which interestingly used to be a saw mill.
Accessibility and Transportation
Jalan Sentul and Jalan Ipoh are two main roads that link Sentul to the rest of Kuala Lumpur. Conveniently, Sentul’s public transport network is established, and even includes two Light Rail Transport (LRT) stations. Additionally, there is also a commuter or ‘Komuter’ station for users of public transportation.
