Kuala Lumpur city has many important roads and one of them is Jalan Kuching Highway, which has been in existence for decades. It passes through part of KL city and stretches northwards all the way to where it connects to the KL-Rawang trunk road in north Selayang. From humble beginnings, this road now passes through a long strip of mainly freehold real-estates, which has seen tremendous development in recent years. It used to be a main point of entry to KL from the north but now the north-south highway has taken over a major part of its role.
Dozens of housing estates, condominiums and commercial buildings have been built over the years along Jalan Kuching on both sides of this multi-lane road. More and more new developments are still sprouting up each year, which seems never ending as one drives along this major road that sees constant transformation in its surrounding landscape. Some of the condominiums built just off this major suburban-urban artery include Flexus Signature Suites, EcoSky high-rise serviced apartments, Sri Putramas 1,2 & 3, Boulevard Serviced Apartments (a part of Boulevard Business Park complex) and many others. The Matrade Exibition & Convention Centre can be seen on a hill when one drives from KL along Jalan Kuching besides the sprawling suburbs, medium-rise flats, shops-lots, car workshops, commercial centres, high-rise residences and trees lining it.

There are many amenities and facilities besides all the modern conveniences and services, which make the residential and commercial areas alongside of Jalan Kuching highly sought after these days. Among them are banks, petrol stations, business and industrial parks, schools, service roads, police stations, food outlets and clinics. Tesco Hypermarket, next to Taman Wahyu, Hospital Selayang, Kompleks Kerajaan at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim off Jalan Kuching, and Selayang Wholesale Market are some of the amenities and services available off this highway.
Accessibility and transportatio
There was actually a toll collection plaza at Jalan Kuching (which is part of KL-Rawang Highway, Federal Route 1) from 1987 to early 2003, which has since been removed when the toll collection here was abolished. The road now is busier than ever with heavy traffic at most times of the day while peak hours see kilometres of long jams. This road services many residential areas like Taman Sri Kuching, Kepong and Taman Prima Selayang while also providing access to industrial areas such as Segambut and Batu Caves Industrial Estates.
Jalan Kinabalu turns into Jalan Kuching at the point beside Bank Negara Head Office and passes alongside Kenny Hills (Bukit Tunku) area, intersecting to the Duta-Ulu Klang Highway further up north. Jalan Kepong and Jalan Ipoh then meet up with Jalan Kuching at the large roundabout. It also intersects and links up with the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) just after Taman Wahyu. Many areas access this road and vice-versa, thus making Jalan Kuching an indispensable road besides being a vital link to Rawang and to the north.
