Overview

Bandar Baru Sri Petaling (or Sri Petaling as it is more commonly known), is a suburb which is located in Kuala Lumpur. Sri Petaling was first developed in the early 1980s, on what previously used to be rubber plantation estates.

Accessibility and Transportation

Today, this vibrant suburb has excellent infrastructure as it is located approximately 15 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur and accessibility is a non-issue with it being connected to major highways such as the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), New Pantai Expresway (NPE), Kuala Lumpur – Putrajaya Highway (MEX), the Kuala Lumpur – Seremban Highway as well as the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2). All these bring Sri Petaling within easy reach of other parts of the Klang Valley such as Bukit Jalil, Kuchai Lama, Puchong, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Bangsar, Shah Alam and even Klang. 

Initially, the population in Sri Petaling was not high upon development. However, over the years, the number of residents increased as more routes of access were opened. Over the years, development continued and accordingly, the population increased. When the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS) was opened in 1997, this allowed travel to Subang Jaya in as little as 10 minutes, and this remains as one of the major factors which contributed to Sri Petaling’s rapid growth. In 2007, the Maju Expressway (MEX), a dedicated highway which connects the Kuala Lumpur City Centre to three prominent locations namely Putrajaya, the Federal Government’s administrative centre, Cyberjaya and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was opened and this also contributed immensely to the development in Sri Petaling. 

Amenities and Facilities

In terms of amenities, Sri Petaling has its very own hypermarket, AEON Big, which is the anchor tenant in the Endah Parade Shopping Complex. There is also a branch of the National Registration Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara) within the Endah Parade Shopping Complex as well as numerous other shops. There is also The Store supermarket which is located in the centre of Sri Petaling, which is flanked by many shoplots which house businesses ranging from mini markets, food and beverage outlets, boutiques, stationery suppliers and even Chinese medicinal halls. Additionally, a branch of the Employees’ Provident Fund (KWSP) has also opened in Sri Petaling.

Public transportation in and around Sri Petaling include public buses, taxis as well as the Light Rail Transit (LRT) which stops at the Sri Petaling station and the nearby Bukit Jalil stations.
